From First Lessons to a Medal

At The Barclay at SouthPark, the Liberty Games are about far more than medals or rankings. They are about people stepping into new experiences, and a community that makes those moments possible.

This year, Marilyn Prensky became a swimming medalist despite never having swum before the Games preparation. Wellness Director Anna Eagle encouraged her to consider the event after noticing her willingness to try something new. Marilyn agreed, with one condition: she needed help.

That help came from Tom, a new resident and enthusiastic pool supporter, who volunteered to teach her. Their informal training sessions in the pool became a daily reminder of encouragement, patience, and friendship. What began as uncertainty turned into confidence, and eventually into a medal-winning performance.

After returning home from Raleigh, Marilyn presented her medal to Tom in gratitude, a simple gesture that reflected something larger: success is shared here. The Liberty Games celebrate courage, connection, and growth together.
